  • While riding on her superpower as one of the most popular celebrities, Jennifer Lawrence continues to win awards. She previously won the Golden Globe, and may be on track to win another Oscar.

Last night, Jennifer Lawrence won the BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture. She was given the award for her role in the hit film American Hustle, which has also racked up tons of other nominations.

American Hustle leads the Academy Award nominations along with Gravity, which also won big last night, and brought home six awards. Gravity earned the awards for Best British Film and Best Director, among others. The award for Best British Film is a bit ironic considering that it is directed by Alfonso Cuaron, and stars two Americans, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

The two films are totally different, and are followed closely behind 12 Years A Slave, with its supporting actress Lupita Nyong’o also giving Jennifer Lawrence her the most competition. Lawrence has won the Golden Globe and and BAFTA, while Nyong’o won the SAG, and either of them have the opportunity to win at the upcoming Oscars.

While the supporting actress award went to Lawrence, 12 Years A Slave was able to grab the top prize, and be considered the best film at the 62nd BAFTA Film Awards, which was held in London. She was unable to attend the ceremony, and the award was accepted by director David O. Russell.

This marks the second year in a row that Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for every award possible, and doing so in both years for a film that David O. Russell has directed. It is even more significant because, in addition to her, three of her other co-stars are nominated for acting Oscars for the second year in a row. 2014 marks only the 15th time in history when that has happened.

The BAFTA Film Awards are presented two weeks before the Academy Awards, and while it has been used to give some films momentum going into the season’s biggest show, it can also help determine who might win at the upcoming show.

In addition to Jennifer Lawrence’s win for Best Supporting Actress last night, American Hustle won two other awards, for Best Original Screenplay, and of course, Best Makeup/Hair, for their outrageous looks depicting how people looked in the 1970’s.

Will the momentum from the BAFTA Awards be enough to earn Jennifer Lawrence another Oscar? Does she deserve it? This year marks her third Oscar nomination, and it could earn her a second win.
