  • Jennifer Lawrence is set to play the role of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano in an upcoming film called Joy. Due out on Christmas Day 2015, the film will be directed by David O. Russell.

Jennifer Lawrence and the director have worked together before and they’ve enjoyed great success as a result of their prior collaborations. He directed Silver Linings Playbook for which she won an Oscar and American Hustle for which she received an Oscar nomination.

The new film will tell the tale of the single mom from Long Island who became famous both for her mop–it allowed people to clean their floors without getting their hands dirty–as well as for her presence on TV shopping networks.

“He recently texted me at, I think, 4 in the morning, and was like, ‘I think I want to make a movie about the woman who invented the [Miracle] Mop. You want to do it?’ And I was like, yeah,” Jennifer Lawrence said.

She added, “I could just imagine David looking at somebody mopping and being like, ‘Yeah, that’s my next screenplay.'”

Jennifer Lawrence is presently busy filming parts one and two of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay . Her role as Katniss Everdeen is really what launched her career, taking her from smaller roles to starring in A-list films.

Some may question how interesting or exciting a film about a woman who invented a mop might be, however if David O. Russell is directing and he has signed someone as sought after as Jennifer Lawrence for the leading role then the story must be well worth telling. Lawrence is clearly a very diverse actress who doesn’t disappoint.
