Jennifer Lawrence: No Twitter for ‘Hunger Games’ Star

  • Jennifer Lawrence might be front and center in the media, but she won’t be front and center on social media. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay star says fans will realize if they ever see a Twitter account in her name–or one on Facebook or Instagram, for that matter–it definitely is an imposter.

According to a report from CBS News, Lawrence has a Facebook page that is maintained by her manager, but she doesn’t personally communicate on any form of social media.

“I will never get Twitter. I’m not very good on phone or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. I don’t really understand what it is. It’s like this weird enigma that people talk about. It’s fine. I respect that,” she said while speaking to Radio 1 Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw.

“But no, I’ll never get a Twitter,” she added. “If you ever see a Facebook, Instagram or Twitter that says it’s me, it most certainly is not.”

One place fans will see Jennifer Lawrence–without a chance of an imposter–is in movie theaters starting on November 21st. That’s the premiere date for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I. Katniss Everdeen and the remainder of the Hunger Games characters played by actors Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, and more will appear on the big screen for the latest installment of the film series.

Do you suppose Jennifer Lawrence is frightened by social media because of the recent incident when nude photos of her–and other celebrities–were posted online?

“Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting. I can’t believe that we even live in that kind of world,” she said in an interview with Vanity Fair.

Celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence who avoid social media sites like Twitter tend to have an air of mystery about them. Social media allows fans to learn mundane things about celebrities like what they ate for dinner or where they’re going two weeks from Saturday. There’s not much privacy left when personal information is shared on a daily basis.

Kudos to Jennifer Lawrence for maintaining that air of mystery and her sense of dignity, too. She stands so far above most celebrities in her age group that it’s sometimes hard to remember she’s just 24 years old.
