  • At the 54th annual Grammy Awards, it was Adele who walked off carrying a lot of gold. But singer and Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Hudson stole at least a little bit of her thunder with a simple, but moving tribute to the late Whitney Houston.

I’ll reserve comment about many aspects of the Grammys, but I’ll just say that to many denizens of the internet, it was nice to see someone actually sing – and sing well. Though Whitney Houston’s later life will always be marred by drug use and bad press, it’s important to remember that she really did have one of the best voices in the history of pop music. On Sunday night, Jennifer Hudson did what she could to pay tribute to her with this performance of the Dolly Parton-penned classic “I Will Always Love You.” I think she did a pretty good job, what do you think?

Twitter hasn’t stopped buzzing about the performance:

Houston was found in a Beverly Hills hotel on Saturday afternoon. The cause of death has not yet been officially ruled, though wide speculation points to a drug overdose. During the hour following the AP’s tweet about her death, more than 2.4 million tweets flooded the stream. We also found out that some citizen journalists actually broke the news on Twitter a few minutes before the AP.
