  • In Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins, there was bad news for the Chicago Bears. Their quarterback, Jay Cutler, was injured with approximately ten minutes left in the second half. Chris Baker, a 333-pound nose tackle on the Redskins, made his first career sack on Cutler when the score was 17-10, with the Redskins on top. He attempted to escape the pressure in the pocket, but Baker tackled and twisted him to the ground. He took some time to resurface, as his teammates surrounded him, but then slowly walked off of the field toward the locker room, with the assistance of one of the Bears’ trainers.

Though it first appeared that he injured his hip on the play, the team later announced that it was a groin injury.

Cutler’s return was also ‘questionable’ until half-time, when he was then ruled out for the rest of the game.

Prior to Cutler’s injury, he was 3-for-8 in complete passes, with a total of 28 yards. He also threw one interception to Brian Orakpo for a 29-yard touchdown return. After his injury, he was replaced by Josh McCown, the only other active quarterback on the roster. Today’s game was his first appearance in a regular-season game since 2011. By half-time, McCown had thrown one incomplete pass and ran twice for a total of ten yards.

Chicago fans were definitely reminded of the 2011 season, when Cutler suffered from a thumb injury and was out for the rest of the season. At that time, the Bears had seven wins and three losses. The next five consecutive games were lost, ending with a win against the Minnesota Vikings.

Though Cutler became the most-sacked quarterback in the Bears’ history today, Devin Hester tied Hall of Famer Deion Sander’s NFL record of nineteen total returns for a touchdown. In today’s game, the Redskins won, 45-41, which now gives the Chicago Bears a record of 4-3.

It is currently unknown whether or not Cutler will return for the next game.
