Jana Duggar is 25, beautiful, and single. Pictures of the former 19 Kids and Counting star are almost haunting in a way. There’s a look in Jana Duggar’s eyes that leaves one wondering if she is bearing too many burdens–or the scars of her younger life.

On Sunday, Jana joined many of her siblings in wishing mom Michelle Duggar a happy birthday. In it, she says she wants to be just like Michelle.

Sadly, Jana Duggar is already like her mom in some ways. She is repressed. She lives under the Christian patriarchy rule of Jim Bob Duggar. And given Jana’s age at the time the sexual molestations took place, she is likely one of brother Josh Duggar’s victims.

Is Jana Duggar single because of what Josh Duggar did to her? If Josh never received clinical counseling for his “sexual sins,” as the Duggars refer to his past and more recent actions (his addiction to pornography, sex with a porn star, cheating on wife Anna Duggar), then Jana likely didn’t either. She may be harboring unhealthy body image issues because of being sexually molested.

Surely Jana Duggar loves her mom and believes she wants to be just like her, but part of that longing could stem from never having seen anything else. Girls in the Duggar household don’t move out until they get married. And how do they meet a man without getting out from under the family fold?

It was almost a year ago when Jana Duggar was dubbed “Cinderella Duggar” in the media. That moniker comes from the fact that Jana has cared for children since she was about 13 years old. Check out any and all photos of Jana Duggar that were taken in the past few years, and you’ll notice she appears tired. How can she possibly try to have a life of her own if she is tasked with caring for her siblings?

When sister Jill Duggar Dillard and hubby Derick came home from Central America to attend Amy Duggar’s wedding, Jana Duggar cared for their son Israel. Certainly she loves her nephew, but she should be doing some things on her own to create a new life for herself.

There is likely some very deep-seated reason that Jana Duggar hasn’t left the 19 Kids and Counting fold.
