  • Jacqueline Bisset just couldn’t get it together and find the right words to express her gratitude when she took the stage to accept the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, during the Golden Globe awards on Sunday night.

“God. Um, I think it was 47 years ago that the Hollywood Foreign Press gave me a ‘Promising Newcomer’…Thank you very much, Hollywood Foreign Press. You’ve nominated me about five times,” she said as she started her speech. She then added something about her Scottish background, saying: “Scottish Background to the Front!”

“Sorry, I’m going to get this together,” she said as the music, cueing her off the stage, came on. “I want to thank the people who gave me joy. And to the people that gave me sh–, my mother, she used to say, ‘Go to hell and don’t come back.’ However, my mother wasn’t entirely mean. I believe if you want to look good, you’ve got to forgive everybody.”

She ended her speech by thanking her friends and family. “I love my friends and I love my family…You’re so kind,” she concluded. “Thank you so much.”

Bisset said her speech was jumbled because she wasn’t expecting her category to come so quickly. “I was told that my category was coming up second to last, so I was absolutely stunned,” she told reporters backstage. “I wondered why the guy was there with a camera filming me. I thought, ‘What’s he looking at here?’ I was completely out of it. I kept thinking, ‘Where’s my dinner?’ And I still haven’t gotten the dinner I was expecting. I can’t really remember what I said.”
