  • Hogwarts must be real, because something magical is going on in Hollywood. Warner Bros. announced Thursday that a movie series is coming with J.K. Rowling debuting as a screenwriter. The new movies are a spin-off of the Harry Potter series based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by fictional author Newt Scamander.

“‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world” said Rowling. “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway…. I always said that I would only revisit the wizarding world if I had an idea that I was really excited about and this is it.”

“It is planned as the first picture in a new film series. Set in the wizarding world, the story will feature magical creatures and characters, some of which will be familiar to devoted Harry Potter fans.” stated Kevin Tsujihara, CEO of Warner Bros Entertainment.

‘Beasts’ is introduced in Rowling’s world in the third book of the Harry Potter series, as the course textbook for ‘ Care of Magical Creatures’ taught by Hagrid, who is fictional himself: half giant, half man.

Though we do not know much yet about the actual storyline of these films, or where J.K. Rowling will lead us next, Potter fans are on the edge of their seats, already eager to see this film. No word yet on an expected release date for this film.
