  • The HTC One Max has been a consistent rumor ever since the HTC One was released earlier this year. After all, everybody else were releasing giant phones so it only made sense for HTC to supersize its latest flagship as well. Well, those rumors were right on the money and then some.

HTC announced today that the HTC One Max is real, and that it will be coming to a carrier near you in mid-October and beyond. Oh, and remember that rumor about the fingerprint scanner? The HTC One Max has one.

Before we get into the terrifying world of biometrics, however, you’ll first want to know what kind of specs we’re looking at here. For starters, the HTC One Max, as its name implies, sports a 5.9-inch 1080p display powered by a quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 4MP rear camera, 2.1 MP front camera, microSD card slot and a 3300mAH battery.

“The addition of the HTC One max means that we now have an HTC One phone for everyone. The family has been built on quality and game-changing innovations and the HTC One max is certainly no exception,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The upgrade to HTC Sense 5.5 will provide our most amazing mobile experience yet, with the HTC One max delivering the size and power required to do everything you want, and more, without compromise.”

Now about that fingerprint scanner – you’ll be happy (or saddened) to know that it’s not as integral to the experience as it is to the iPhone 5S. In fact, it’s not even on the front of the device. Instead, the fingerprint scanner is a little black square on the back of the device that one simply swipes their finger over. Like the iPhone 5S, the fingerprint scanner on the HTC One Max can be used to lock and unlock their device. Additionally, users can also assign up to three apps to separate fingers to quickly launch said apps.

As noted above, the HTC One Max will be available internationally starting mid-October. As for the domestic release, Droid-Life points out that the device is currently only compatible with Verizon’s and Sprint’s networks. We’ll probably see it on those carrier’s networks before the end of the year.
