  • HTC today officially announced its One X+ smartphone, a “refreshed” version of its flagship Android device, the One X. The company’s launch of the HTC One X did not propel the smartphone to “must-have” status in the U.S. The device was only available through AT&T or re-branded as an Evo product through Sprint.

The One X+ will feature a 1.7GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, a 64GB of internal storage, and, believe it or not, actually ships with the latest version of Android, 4.1 Jelly Bean. The OS will, though, have HTC’s Sense UI layered on top of it.

The smartphone also features 4G LTE, a larger 2100 mAh battery, and Beats Audio branding. HTC claims that the One X+ is 67% faster than the One X.

“We are taking the HTC One X to a new level with the introduction of the new HTC One X+,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC. “Our customers will have super-fast browsing, an even better camera and more immersive entertainment with Beats Audio.”

The One X+ will be available in Europe and North Asia in October and in South Asia in November. The North American release window has not been announced yet, suggesting that HTC might once again drop the ball in the U.S.
