  • On Thursday, Hilary Duff said goodbye to her long blonde locks and said hello to a new shorter hairdo.

Duff called up her stylist Marcus Francis on Wednesday, May 29 and told him she wanted to make the bold move for a new summer look.

“She texted me last night and wanted to do it right away,” Francis told US Weekly, “We wanted a bigger change for summer and just to feel healthier in general.”

Francis explained that he took off three inches of hair, and cut it into a shaggy bob. He described the cut as “blunt,” and having long layers, long in the front and short in the back.

The 26-year-old actress, and mother to two-year-old son Luca, later took to her social media accounts, Instagram and Twitter, to share the cutting process and the final results. The first picture shows Francis in mid cut, and was captioned by saying: “Morning chop…. W/ my favorite @marcusrfrancis.” The next photo was a selfie that was simply captioned as: “#selfie.”

As for the final result, Francis said that Duff loves it! “She loves it and feels like it’ll be easier to style,” Francis said. “She actually wanted it shorter when we first discussed the cut, but once she saw what three inches looked like, she felt the length is perfect. She loved that the hair looked and felt thicker.”

Duff is always one to take on a new fresh look, and revealed to PEOPLE that she likes to experiment with her style and beauty regimens. “It’s give and take — what you’re wearing and trying to balance it with your look and your makeup,” Duff told PEOPLE. “I love that you can just take on a different role. You can just put something on and all of a sudden you’ve morphed into something different. It brings out a tone in your personality and you get to play with that.”
