Two New York high school seniors who were voted “Cutest Couple” in their yearbook superlatives say they’re being teased about it…but not because they’re gay.

“Our friends are giving it to us about being Internet famous,” said 18-year-old Dylan Meehan.

Meehan and boyfriend Brad Taylor say the photo has gone viral after being posted to a friend’s blog, and while the knowledge that so many people have now seen them as an openly gay couple was a little daunting at first, they’ve now accepted it.

“The thought of a photo of us traveling throughout the world would be a bit frightening, but now we are proud to be part of the LGBT community,” the boys said.

The boys are both well-liked at school and were told by friends that they were hands-down the best nominees for the superlative. And while many other high schools might not be so tolerant of their lifestyles, school principal Kevin Carroll says that at Carmel High, it’s really not an issue. School officials did, however, check with Meehan and Taylor as well as their parents before including their photo in the yearbook.
