  • Fans of Dragon Age: Origins are patiently waiting for BioWare to finish the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition. The game’s developers seem to have taken the significant criticism of Dragon Age II to heart, and previews of Inquisition have made it one of the most anticipated next-generation titles yet announced.

Today, EA announced that Dragon Age fans won’t have to wait until Inquisition‘s release next year to get more from the series. Unfortunately, the next Dragon Age game will be free-to-play and on mobile devices.

Heroes of Dragon Age will be coming to Android and iOS sometime this fall. The game is described as a “squad-based combat” game with “engaging quests” in the Dragon Age setting. Players will collect (and/or buy, most likely) a team of heroes and monsters to battle in “fast-paced, character-based” combat. The party members will level up and the makeup of a particular squad will influence battle strategy to some extent. Though a list of heroes has not been announced, EA hinted that at least some of them may be recognizable from already existing Dragon Age games.

Winning in combat imparts rewards that players can use to power-up, and leaderboards will rank players. As a free-to-play game, the option to purchase in-game items with real money will also be present.
