  • Gwyneth Paltrow unknowingly created a whole lot of talk last year when she announced that she and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin were going to “consciously uncouple” after ten years of marriage, causing fans and curious talk show hosts to wonder: what exactly does that mean?

Now, Paltrow is expanding a bit on the theory–saying they aren’t even her words–and has opened up about her relationship with Martin now. The actress says she and Chris are still very close, just in a very different way.

“He’s like my brother. I’m really close to him. We’re a family. Even though we’re not in a romantic relationship, we’re a true family and we like to do things to reinforce that we’re a family for the children and for each other,” Gwyneth told Matt Lauer.

The couple share two children–Apple and Moses–and are very invested in their family unit as they try to make life as “normal” as possible despite their fame. Paltrow said that the divorce went much like any separation would, adding that it was hard on the kids. However, she added that she tried to keep a low profile during that time for the sake of her kids.

“It was a very intense time for our family. Emotions were very high and deep and all over the place. I just try to keep to myself as much as possible.”

Gwyneth took the children to the Super Bowl this year so they could see their dad perform with Coldplay at halftime, sharing photos from the event on Instagram. She says she tried hard to get them to understand that this sort of thing doesn’t happen every day, or to just anyone, but the event was doubly exciting for the kids because it was their first football game.

Gwyneth spoke recently about the pressure on women in Hollywood to look young and fresh-faced, saying she doesn’t want to be 26 again, but would rather age gracefully. The 43-year old says she’s proud of everything that makes her, her…even the wrinkles.

“I don’t feel pressure to look young. I feel like I’ve earned my wrinkles, and I’m very proud of everything that I’ve gone through in life — both good and bad,” Gwyneth Paltrow said.
