  • Gwen Stefani has definitely gone through a lot in the last few months, but despite the emotional roller coaster, she seems to be doing better than she’s ever been – thanks to music.

The 46-year-old pop-rock singer has successfully managed to maintain an image of grace and positivity despite her tumultuous marriage to fellow rocker Gavin Rossdale, which eventually led to a nasty divorce in October.

Although she considers herself to be in a good place right now, Gwen Stefani says that getting there was anything but easy. During an interview at The Z100 Morning Show in New York on Thursday, the former No Doubt vocalist revealed that beneath her cool and collected façade was the desire to stay in bed crying and “do what you do when your life falls apart.” “Everybody knows pretty much what happened to me,” said Gwen Stefani to radio show host Elvis Duran. “I got a divorce, which completely was not in the plan at all.”

Gwen Stefani shared that her marital issues came at a time when she was busy with coaching on The Voice, carrying their youngest child Apollo, and trying to create new music at the studio. Thankfully, she was able to draw inspiration from her emotional turmoil to come up with her latest hit single, “Used to Love You,” and she says she couldn’t be happier that the response from listeners has been overwhelmingly positive.

Stefani recently gave a flawless live performance of the song during the Monday episode of The Voice. Fellow coach and new boyfriend Blake Shelton reportedly “gushed” over her emotion-filled rendition, and got on his feet to give her a standing ovation.

He expressed his admiration for Gwen Stefani and her ability to take something “good and positive” out of her divorce.

“She deserves it,” Shelton said of Gwen Stefani’s current success. “If you go through whatever she went through to write that song, at least she’s getting something good, positive out of it.”
