  • Almost one year ago, Guacamelee! hit PlayStation consoles. The game recieved praise for its side-scrolling open-world action beat ’em up gameplay and an unforgiving difficulty curve. Since that time the game has gone on to sell well on PC too and was even featured in a recent Humble Bundle.

Now Drinkbox Studios is expanding the reach of Guacamelee! even more with a re-release packed with extras. The developer this week announced Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, a special edition version of the game that will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Wii U. The game is part of Microsoft’s ID@Xbox program, the company’s indie development initiative.

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition will feature all of the DLC released for the original Guacamelee!. The game will also feature new volcano and Canal of flowers areas, a new “Trio of Death” boss fight, new luchador abilities, new enemies, and support for multiple saved games.

Love it or hate it, the new version of the game will also feature what Drinkbox is calling a “dual currency system,” allowing players to unlock items permanently.

“It’s always been our plan to bring Guacamelee! to additional platforms in order to share the game’s unique world with as many gamers as possible; however, we wanted to go one step further and provide fans with new content and features.” said Ryan MacLean, co-founder of DrinkBox. “We feel that Super Turbo Championship Edition’s new levels, enemies and abilities (did somebody say explosive eggs?) will provide armchair luchadores with the richest Guac experience ever.”
