The “Grand Theft Auto: iFruit” app was released today for iOS. The app is a satirical take on smartphones and iPhone apps in particular, but it also serves as the mobile tie-in for Grand Theft Auto V. From the app’s iTunes description:

How would we survive without apps? Apps can transform your mobile device into essential tools like a harmonica, disco ball or convincing moustache. Somewhere out there is the perfect storm of touchscreen technology to fix everything that’s wrong with your life. And maybe all you’re missing is the iFruit app. Maybe not. At least you’ll have something to keep you entertained while your significant other prattles on endlessly about their day.

The apps-within-the-app will allow players to interact with GTAV in several ways. First, players can customize their vehicles and license plates from the app. Tires, brakes, engines, and other car parts can all be upgraded, and cars can be painted and tinted from the app as well.

The other large portion of the app is a mini-game called Chop the Dog. The game is a full-on virtual pet simulation that tasks players with caring for GTAV character Franklin’s dog. By caring for the dog in the app, Chop will act differently in the real GTAV. In addition to being “more helpful and responsive to Franklin,” Chop will be able to do tricks and seek out hidden items if properly trained.
