Grammy Awards: Who Will Win Big?

  • Award season is upon us again, with tonight being centered on honoring those in music who excelled in their genres. When it comes to the Grammys, there have been some noted snubs, but now it is time to focus on talents that are in the running for the awards.

Who is it that is likely to walk away from the Grammys with the big awards of the night? Here are some of my predictions:

Record of the Year: Imagine Dragons, “Radioactive”

I don’t particularly care for this song, but there’s no denying it was everywhere. EVERYWHERE. It wasn’t just played on the radio every five minutes (like “Blurred Lines”), it was in movie trailers. It was in television show trailers. It was in video game trailers. If someone had a trailer to their existence in 2013, “Radioactive” would have been playing in the background.

Album of the Year: Taylor Swift, “Red”

Her album’s success was far and away better than anyone else in the category with her. And with Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience mysteriously absent, there is no real obvious competition for her. If there were an upset of any kind, it will come from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s “The Heist”.

Song of the Year: Lorde, “Royals”

A song that put a relative unknown on the map, Royals came out of seemingly nowhere as other pop princesses spent much of 2013 fighting for dominance. “Same Love” has a very powerful message, but it’s just a question of whether or not the Grammys feel the actual song is good enough for the honor. If Macklemore & Ryan Lewis win for another major category, it might be a good indicator.

Best New Artist: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

If they don’t walk away with this award, I will be truly shocked. These new faces have been everywhere. Though…some think they may have worn out their welcome and won’t see the same level of success outside of 2013. Nevertheless, Macklemore made a big impact last year. The only other person I saw talked about nearly as much was Ed Sheeran. But I think they’ll edge him out.
