  • Ready for another Google search Easter Egg? Good, because this one’s pretty sweet.

Google has inserted itself into one of the most popular movie-themed party games around – Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Now, all you have to do is search “Bacon Number X,” with “X” being a famous celebrity, and Google will tell you their Bacon Number – or how many jumps it takes to connect them to actor Kevin Bacon.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a variation of the Six Degrees of Separation idea which posits that nobody in the world in more than six connections away from any other person in the world. The Kevin Bacon version takes this idea and applies it to Hollywood.

Here are some of the searches I came up with:

I know, sorry about that last one.

One beef I would have with Google’s admittedly awesome new Easter Egg is that it appears to be using documentaries as stepping stones to Kevin Bacon. While there are no “rules” that forbid this, I have to call “weak” on that one.

After some an excessive amount of tinkering with Google’s new feature, I discovered that’s it’s very hard to find anyone with a Bacon Number larger than 3. It would make sense, considering the average Bacon Number has been reported to be 2.957. Still, this is the only Bacon Number of 4 or above that I could find in my limited search:

Ok, go on and waste some time. I’m not sure that it’s as much of a productivity killer as some former Google Easter Eggs like doing a barrel roll or Zerg rush, but it’s pretty damn close.
