  • There’s no point in trying to preorder tickets – or avoid going within 100 yards of a movie theater – just yet.  But a new report indicates that a movie about Google might be on the way, and at least one of the entities behind it has indeed managed to turn out some big films in the past.

To first address the odds of the picture getting finished: Mike Fleming reported that Groundswell Productions and a man named John Morris have acquired the movie rights to a Google-centric book, and while Morris has a tiny presence on IMDB, Groundswell Productions has backed at least eight films, including Appaloosa and Milk.

As for the movie’s subject matter and plot, they’d be based on the book Googled: The End of the World As We Know It, and perhaps not as sensationalized as The Social Network.

    GoogleMichael London
, the founder of Groundswell Productions, told Fleming, "It’s about these two young guys who created a company that changed the world, and how the world in turn changed them.  The heart of the movie is their wonderful edict, don’t be evil."

Then London continued, "At a certain point in the evolution of a company so big and powerful, there are a million challenges to that mandate.  Can you stay true to principles like that as you become as rich and powerful as that company has become?  The intention is to be sympathetic to Sergey and Larry, and hopefully the film will be as interesting as the company they created."

Not much else is known about the project at this juncture; no writers, directors, or actors have been attached.
