  • The version of Android that’ll follow the version codenamed "Froyo" should be released any time now.  To celebrate its arrival, Google has already taken the step of installing a large statue of a gingerbread man on the company’s campus in Mountain View.

We’ve known for a while that the next version of Android carried the codename "Gingerbread," and more than a few rumors and documents have indicated that a fourth-quarter launch was supposed to occur, too.  So this may not be the most startling thing ever reported.

Still, this event hints at a release during the earliest possible part of that three-month window, which is perhaps a very good sign concerning the development process.

It’ll of course make Google’s famous campus more colorful, as well, since the Gingerbread statue joins large figures representing Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, and Froyo.

Anyway, you can watch the delivery and installation of the Gingerbead statue below, if you’d like, thanks to a video called "We’ve been making something" Google made documenting the process.

Meanwhile, we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for Android announcements in the week ahead.
