  • We’ve seen a variety of uses for Google Glasses over the past week. There’s been uses for everything between becoming a Terminator to being a creeper. There’s been one use that’s been largely ignored though – the video game. Think of the possibilities that augmented reality can have on video games and I don’t mean those little AR cards that are the norm now for mobile devices that are dabbling in it.

A new video from YouTube user ThereIsACanal takes Google Glasses onto the Battlefield – Battlefield 5 to be exact. While we’re pretty sure Battlefield 5 won’t be an augmented reality game, it would still be cool nonetheless. The video below is by far one of the coolest concepts we’ve seen for Project Glass so far with the AR rendering enemies, jets, guns, etc into the environment.

The only real problem I can see is the people angry at the level of realism in shooters now would be absolutely livid at the shooters of the AR era. Just watching the video proves this point with every kill being obviously staged, but realistic nonetheless.

The most impressive part of the video, however, is the idea that AR can physically change our appearance when wearing the glasses. One moment I’m a mild-mannered writer with no military training and next minute, I’m garbed in standard issue wear packing heat. Imagine the possibilities this would have on the paintball and laser tag wars of the future. It would be a game changer.

Check out the video below and tell us if you think Project Glass has the potential to change the way we play video games, or more specifically first-person shooters.
