  • Google’s interest in professional-quality video continues to rise.  This afternoon, a company called Green Parrot Pictures announced that Google’s followed up a recent series of moves in the space by acquiring it.  Google appears to have big plans for the smaller company, too.

To first provide a little background info: Green Parrot Pictures was founded in 2004 and is based in Ireland.  It deals in making images and videos look better, and its products include Color Claw (an iPhone app that allows for color adjustments) and Magic Bullet Steady (an Adobe After Effects plug-in that acts as a video stabilizer and noise reducer).

Also, just in the past month, YouTube’s launched the Creator Institute, bought Next New Networks, hired an exec from Paramount, and (maybe) arranged to pay celebs millions of dollars for custom content.

Now, to return to the present, a post on the Green Parrot Pictures homepage announced today, “We’re excited to announce that Green Parrot Pictures has been acquired by Google!”

Then the post ended by stating, “We’re excited to join Google, where we will apply our expertise to improve the online video experience for hundreds of millions of users worldwide on many different products, platforms and services.”

Not much more information is available.  No one’s even hinted at the purchase price, for example, and we haven’t seen a guess as to when any sorts of tweaks or features will go live.

Still, Google appears to be building up to something big, and we’ll be sure to report other developments as they occur.  Hat tip goes to Matt Rosoff.
