The incident arose in Winthrop, Massachusetts on Friday February 24th. This time the culprit was a father who was caught shining a laser pointer at the opposing teams goalie. To make matters worse, this was during a girls high school hockey game. He was caught in the 3rd period of the game with the score tied 1-1. Winthrop assistant superintendent Lisa Howard then went into the stands and ordered the parent out of the arena. The team who had the laser pointed at their goalie went on to not only lose the game 3-1, but they also lost the appeal to replay the period. The official appeal denial letter as to why the third period will not be replayed can be seen here.

Winthrop superintendent John Macero said the father has been barred from all events involving Winthrop High School “I don’t know what the person was thinking,” Macero told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 Friday. “Why would you do that to both teams? Both teams, they’ve earned the right, Medway girls, the Winthrop girls, to have this opportunity to perform in a game and for someone to come in and do that inappropriate action was uncalled for.” “I think it’s important for Medway to understand that we are just as upset at this situation too, because it kind of puts a black eye on Winthrop and those kids don’t deserve that, neither does Medway.”

At this time, the option to press criminal charges is being explored
