  • Gabourey Sidibe is an incredible actress. If you haven’t seen “Precious”, you might want to give that one a whirl sometime soon. I don’t recommend watching the flick when you’re in a great mood, as it’s only going to bring you down. It’s a tough movie to sit through, and this is coming from a guy who watches grisly horror movies on a fairly consistent basis.

Because the actress is, well, larger than your typical Hollywood starlet, she has received quite a bit of criticism from people who should probably just keep their traps shut. There’s no getting around the fact that Sidibe is a big girl, and she’s taken her fair share of flack from critics, bloggers, and radio personalities alike. Why her weight matters to anyone but her is anybody’s guess. Maybe they just need something talk/write about. Ahem.

During her appearance on Andy Cohen’s talk show “Watch What Happens Live”, Sidibe was asked what celebrity encounter disappointed her the most. Her response is rather shocking, especially since I happen to be a fan of the actress in question.

Here’s Sidibe’s response to the question:

What celebrity was I disappointed by? Oh, and it’s not in a mean way, because I know that she meant well. I met Joan Cusack, who is my favorite favorite- I love her- but, it was before I became [famous] or whatever.

I was at some industry party, and she says, ‘Are you an actress?’ And I said, ‘Yeah!’ And she says, ‘Oh honey, you should really quit the business, it’s so image-conscious.’

Of course, Cusack does have a point. Hollywood is very image conscious, but is that any reason for her to tell Sidibe that she should quit the business altogether? Not quite. Unconventional actors defy the odds all the time. Considering Cusack isn’t exactly the most attractive individual on the planet, it’s kind of surprising that she would deliver this sort of advice to an actress who is obviously a fan. Of course, this could all be taken entire out of context.

Was Joan Cusack right to say such a thing to Sidibe, or is this just another case of the “Precious” actress being judged for her weight and not her abilities as a thespian? Leave your comments below. Twitter responses to the topic at-hand have been embedded for your convenience.

Gabourey Sidibe did such a great job in the movie “Precious”.. That girl can act not like Cusack, who is not even pretty. No more to talk(image) 12 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
