Foursquare Improves iOS App with Better Location Pages

  • Last week, Foursquare released an update for their Android app that modified location pages to include more relevant information – putting large photos and pertinent places facts front and center. Today, they’ve released an iOS update that pretty much does the same thing, but with a slight addition.

With today’s app update, iOS users will now see redesigned location pages that put the name, rating, address, hours, phone number, menu (if applicable) at the very top. Like the Android version, the new iOS app also adds big, swipeable photos to the very top.

Location pages will look different once you’ve already checked-in. Instead of information like the price, hours, and a map view, Foursquare shows you tips from friends, other people currently checked-in and more. In order to view how many points you received for the check-in, there’s a gray bar at the bottom of the page.

Foursquare says that this is all about discovering new places and making the most of them once you’re there, and it makes sense to show different info depending on whether a user is thinking about going to a location or already sitting at that location

Foursquare also wants to make each check-in memorable in some way, and have added interesting facts to each one.

“We’re also starting to roll out a simplified experience for after you check in that highlights an important takeaway from your visit. You might see a tip about your friend’s favorite dish, that it’s your 106th week in a row at the gym, or that after all those sushi excursions, you’ve finally achieved level 10 of the Bento badge,” says the company in a blog post.

You can download the update today from the App Store.
