  • Ford has reportedly reaffirmed its commitment to Apple’s CarPlay despite some of its rivals shunning the platform in favor of their own efforts.

Apple CarPlay is a popular option in many vehicles, allowing iPhone users to integrate their devices with their vehicle’s infotainment system. Unfortunately, some automakers are dropping CarPlay, as well as Google’s Android Auto, in favor of their own solutions. GM is following this route, announcing at the end of March its plans to create its own solution with the help of Google.

9to5Mac reached out to Ford to ask if the company had similar plans and received the following statement:

“We continue to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because customers love the capability that enables easy access and control of their smartphone apps – especially our EV customers because some EVs currently do not offer the features,” a spokesperson said.

As the outlet points out, GM is not alone in shunning CarPlay. While GM is abandoning Apple’s platform, Rivian has never supported it, and the company’s CEO has indicated there are no plans to.

In an industry where basic features are being locked behind subscriptions and popular features are being shunned, it’s reassuring that at least one automaker is continuing to put what its customers want first.
