  • Fleetwood Mac fans/all sane persons rejoice: the band is back together. The lineup that created legendary rock album Rumours will be embarking on a 33-city tour across North America in September. The aptly titled “On With The Show” tour will be singer/keyboardist Christine McVie’s first tour with the band in 15 years.

McVie last reunited with her former band mates in September 2013 at several performances in London, sparking gossip that she would be making a permanent return to the fold. The band’s publicist, Liz Rosenburg, confirmed this in January. “[McVie] has indeed re-joined Fleetwood Mac and we are hoping to make an announcement about a possible tour for the full tilt Macsters some time in 2014,” Rosenberg said.

Fleetwood Mac announced the tour on Thursday on a segment of the TODAY show. McVie gives a fear of flying as her reason for abandoning the touring lifestyle. “I hadn’t flown for 15 years,” McVie said. But when asked about her performances with the band this past fall, she said, “Walking out in London was sensational.” The other members of the band were equally emotional. “I had to get the Kleenex out,” said John McVie.

This wouldn’t be the first time Christine McVie made John McVie weep. The former couple, along with band mates Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, were all known for their tumultuous romantic life as much as their brilliant songwriting and the palpable, perpetual love/hate cycle between the couples is what made their music so appealing. Over the years, the waters have calmed (at least between the McVies), and it remains to be seen if the band can consistently summon the Rumours-era magic on stage. For Fleetwood Mac fans (Macsters?), it won’t matter — if they can get up there and model top hats without killing each other (whether or not they kill each other, Stevie Nicks had better be wearing a top hat), it will be a scintillating success.

The “On With The Show” tour commences in Minneapolis on September 30th at the Target Center, and includes a live televised performance on October 9th at the Rockefeller Center as part of TODAY’s Summer Concert Series. The tour concludes on December 20th in Tampa. Tickets will be on sale to the public on April 7th.
