Facebook Rolls Out Redesign To Notes Feature

  • Last month, people were noticing an updated version of Facebook Notes, which seemed to give the feature more of a Medium feel. On Friday, the company formally announced the update, which is now rolling out.

The launch is aimed at getting Facebook users to post more long-form content on the social network, which is essentially what the feature was always for. Basically, besides giving it a refresh, Facebook appears to be reminding people they can use Notes.

With the new version, you can add a cover photo for the note itself as well as caption and resize photos and format text into headers, quotes, or bullets.

“For instance, you can recap your summer vacation or an important time in your life to update the people you care about,” says user interface engineer Isaac Salier-Hellendag. “You can voice your opinion on something you saw in the news or write an open letter you want to share with the world. You can share a special recipe with a bulleted list of ingredients and photos of each step.”

“Facebook has always been a place to share your thoughts with friends, and notes are a meaningful way for people to do that,” adds Salier-Hellendag. “For example, Jeff Nunokawa enjoys creative writing, and every day since 2007, he has written a note inspired by a different quote. With this update, Jeff has a better way of bringing his words to life and connecting with his friends on Facebook.”

You’ll only be able to create notes on the web, at least for now, but they’re viewable on mobile.

You can see a News Feed/Timeline of notes from yourself and your friends by going to facebook.com/notes.
