  • Facebook’s director of small business Dan Levy announced at an event in New York City on Tuesday that Facebook now has 30 million active small business Pages worldwide. About two-thirds of them (19 million) are actively managing their Pages via mobile, which the company says is a testament to the “growing importance of having a mobile marketing presence.”

The event was actually the first in a series called Facebook Fit, which is meant to help small businesses achieve success with Facebook, and includes people from Facebook, Intuit, LegalZoom and Square, who offer tips on marketing, legal services, finance management, etc.

The event cost $25 per ticket, and the company has dates scheduled for Miami, Chicago, Austin, and Menlo Park.

Facebook posted the 30 million active small business Pages stat on its Facebook for Business page. The top comment is, “If only more people saw posts without paying out the butt.”

That’s a reference to the fact that organic reach for Page posts has been on a steady decline to virtually nothing at all for many pages. This has been controversial among businesses, and one made headlines when it “broke up” with Facebook after getting over 70,000 fans.

What some discouraged by the decline in organic reach may not realize, however, is that referrals from Facebook have have been on the rise, and are way above those from other social networks.

Yes, you may want to focus on the content consumers are sharing more than the content you’re pushing yourself.
