  • According to research from Experian Hitwise, Facebook accounts for one in six page views in the UK. It’s the second most visited site.

In July, Facebook made up 7.14% of all UK Internet visits, according to the firm. It accounted for over half (54.48%) of all visits to social networking sites. Google UK was the top dog at 9.59% of visits.

"Facebook continues to grow around the world (last month it reached half a billion registered users) and there is no doubt that it leads the social networking pack in the UK," says Experian Hitwise’s Robin Goad. "However, with 26m British users already, when will it start to reach saturation point?"

"Facebook’s market share of UK page views has trebled over the last five years, but growth has slowed significantly over the last six months, says Goad. "Last month there was a slight decline in share, but this may well be down to seasonality (the August / September back to school / college / university period is significant for Facebook)."

As far as time spent on site, the average for Facebook is close to half an hour. As Goad points out, however, this metric has stabilized, after months of growth. He’s got a couple more charts here.
