Facebook Announces Groups for Developer App

  • Facebook announced today that it is adding the ability to add and create Facebook Groups within the Developer App. These can be used to manage users who are admins, developers, Insights users, and testers.

“As part of Operation Developer Love, we are continuing to improve documentation, fix bugs, and build features that make it easier for developers to build and manage apps on Facebook Platform,” Facebook’s Taylor Clarke tells WebProNews. “With this new feature, developers can add a set of users to a role across apps rather than adding the same users to apps one at a time.”

“With this feature, adding users to a role across different apps has become much simpler,” says Facebook’s Royce Cheng Yue. “For example, you may have a QA team to test your apps. Instead of having to repeatedly add the QA team users as Testers on each app, you can now create a ‘QA team’ Group from the Developer App with these users and add this Group to the ‘Tester’ section.”

“Over the next few weeks, we will continue to release features that address feedback from the developer community,” Clarke tells us.

Facebook also recently released the new Developer App, Test User management, the Graph API Explorer, and new App Insights. This all comes on the heels of the big “ban bot” fiasco, where Facebook’s algorithm was blocking established apps without warning, based on user feedback, and inadvertently harming some legitimate apps.
