  • Amazon launched “Login and Pay with Amazon” nearly a year ago to let websites enable users to use their Amazon accounts to make purchases. Such a product had been long-anticipated.

Login and Pay with Amazon was initially only available in the U.S., but according to TheNextWeb, the offering has now reached Europe. Nick Summers reports:

In addition to raising brand awareness, the company takes a 1.9 percent cut of each transaction, as well as a standard fee of €0.35 or less. (In the UK, however, the rates have been set at 3.4 percent and £0.20 pence or less.) Otherwise, there are no fees for monthly use, setup, cancellation, refunds or fraud protection.

“Login and Pay with Amazon enables companies to make millions of our customers their customers by inviting online shoppers with Amazon credentials to access their account information safely and securely with a single login,” said Amazon’s Tom Taylor when the feature was first launched.

It works on tablets, mobile, and desktop devices. When a customer logs in, the merchant gets their name, email address and zip code, which can be used to create an account and personalize the user’s checkout experience.

The feature has the potential to increase conversion rates if for no other reason than people are comfortable with the Amazon brand and have existing accounts.
