Apparently the late singer believed Marin and her then husband, former MLB pitcher Esteban Loaiza, were having an affair. Rivera filed for divorce and she and her daughter stopped speaking to each other.

Recently, Marin spoke with Azteca America about her mother’s death and their estrangement. About both events Marin said, “The world and my family lost Jenni on December 9, I lost my mother two months before on October 2. It was a misunderstanding. My world ended that day.”

As hurt as Marin was that her mother believed the affair rumors, she was even more hurt that people would spread such lies. Marin continued, “I don’t understand how the rumor got started, this horrible thing that has caused so much suffering. [Loaiza] has always been very respectful towards me and me with him.”

When Rivera filed for divorce she did not reveal her exact reasons, only saying that it was too “severe” to talk about. Not long after she filed for divorce, Rivera also kicked Marin out of the house.

What is even more heartbreaking is that Rivera died beleiving the affair rumors between Marin and Loaiza were true. “There were so many people filling her head with things. If there’s a problem with someone you should ask them directly, and that’s something she didn’t do. To this day, my mother, in her heart, thinks I had something with Esteban,” said Marin, “Every day I have to live with this, no one knows the pain I carry, especially because it was a misunderstanding, there were so many people in the middle that caused so much pain, so many problems that it was impossible not to be upset.”

It was recently announced that Marin will play her mother in an upcoming biopic. (If you understand Spanish, you can watch Marin in the video below explain her part in the upcoming biopic of her mother.)
