Eric Schmidt Still Google’s Best Guess for “Google CEO”

  • As you may know, Larry Page officially took over the role of Google CEO today, as Eric Schmidt became Executive Chairman. Google has already changed the executive bios to reflect this, as previously reported.

Google’s search results still have some catching up to do, however. As of the time of this writing, if you do a Google search for “google ceo” you will be presented with one of those instant answer-style results above all other organic results.

The problem with this answer is that it’s wrong.

Google's Best Guess for Google CEO

Clearly, this exposes some flaws in Google’s “best guess” approach. With all of the sophisticated algorithm updates, and brilliant minds working at the company, it’s interesting that Google’s flagship product – its search engine would get something like this wrong – for its own company.

Perhaps it’s time to start incorporating some real-time search data into the recipe for the “Best Guess” feature.

For comparison, Bing shows a set of news results, referencing the Google CEO change, before going to its top regular result – the Wikipedia entry for Eric Schmidt.
