  • It’s that time of year, the time when everybody takes to social media to bitch about how their favorite show got snubbed. Unless you hop into a time travel machine, go back a few years, step outside and bitch about how The Wire got the shaft, just stop – your argument is invalid.

This year’s Emmy Nominations look to be a balance between previous favorites and new kids on the block. Okay, maybe not a “balance” as many of the nominees have been there before, but the Emmys definitely gave some love to some new shows.

Leading the charge with 17 total nominations is the sitcom Modern Family. I don’t watch that show, but I hear one of its actresses is quite the beauty.

A quick recap of the nominations –

Best Drama: Boardwalk Empire, Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, Games of Thrones, Dexter

Best Actress in a Drama: Kathy Bates – Harry’s Law, Connie Britton – Friday Night Lights, Mariska Hargitay – Law & Order SVU, Julianna Marguiles – The Good Wife, Elisabeth Moss – Mad Med, Mireille Enos – The Killing

A full list is available here.

On a personal note, I’m happy to see Game of Throne‘s Peter Dinklage get a nod for Supporting Actor for his role as Tyrion Lannister Also, coolest person on the face of the planet Louis C.K. was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy.

Celebrities, both nominated and simply commentating, have taken to Twitter to talk about the Emmy nods.

Now it’s time for the fun part: Predictions, in the form of a who will win and who should win format.

Best Drama – Who Will Win? Boardwalk Empire. Who Should Win? Game of Thrones. Hands down the most beautifully crafted season arc I’ve seen since The Wire. And before you ask, yes, I’ve seen all 5 nominees.

Best Actress in a Drama: Who Will Win? Julianna Marguiles for The Good Wife. The Emmys eat that show up. Who Should Win? Elisabeth Moss for Mad Men.

Best Actor in a Drama: Who Will Win? Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire. Who Should Win? Kyle Chandler for Friday Night Lights.

Best Variety Show of Comedy Series: Who Will Win? The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Who Should Win? Real Time with Bill Maher.
