  • Elton John is undoubtedly one of the most iconic artists of our time, and his vast experience in the music industry has also developed in him a great eye for talent. Known for making collaborations with unexpected artists like Eminem and Queens of the Stone Age, the English singer-songwriter is at it again with his random discoveries.

In an interview with Noisey in December of last year, Sir Elton John revealed that not only was he familiar with the rapper Young Thug, but he actually really liked his music as well. During a broadcast of his Rocket Hour radio show on Beats 1, the 68-year-old pop music legend said he heard a Thug song and immediately became a fan.

“I heard a [Young Thug] track on Beats 1 and I loved it so much.”

While most people might not associate Elton John with hip-hop, he actually is no stranger to the genre. He was featured on the Kanye West track, “All of the Lights” and his 1971 hit “Indian Sunset” was sampled by the late rapper Tupac Shakur for his track, “Ghetto Gospel.”

It looks like Elton John is ready to take his admiration for Young Thug a step further, based on a report released by The FADER. According to the article, the two musicians have already begun talks of a musical collaboration inspired by Elton’s 1972 hit, “Rocket Man.” The conversation, which was done via FaceTime, was arranged by 300 Entertainment co-founder, Lyor Cohen.

Young Thug reportedly remixed a “Rocket Man” instrumental sent to him by Elton John, and the knighted performer was thoroughly pleased with the result.

A source says that instead of rapping over the instrumental, Young Thug sang the lyrics. “It’s all the instrumental, the guitar, piano; and Thug is not rapping, he’s singing. It’s really ambient and amazing.”
