  • Ellen Page came out of that proverbial dark closet during a speech she gave on Friday at a conference for LGBT youth in Las Vegas. She was lauded with a standing ovation from the crowd during her speech, and Hollywood hasn’t stop lauding her yet.

“I’m here today because I am gay,” she said, and immediately the entire venue rose to their feet and applauded the 26-year-old actress.

Not only did her speech include her coming out statement, it was also filled with a poignancy about what life of hiding her true self entailed–one that most members of the audience completely understood.

Page’s speech ascertained her willingness to be part of a bigger solution for the LGBT community.

“And because maybe I can make a difference, to help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility,” she said.

If you haven’t already watched or listened to Ellen Page’s speech, it is a must. Her poise, dignity and obvious gut wrenching nervousness at opening her heart and her life for all the world to see is awe inspiring. Her words should–and will–transcend many communities, races, and genders.

A wealth of Hollywood celebrities tweeted their sentiments about Ellen Page’s speech, as well as direct comments of love, hope and praise to the young actress.

Lance Bass knows all too well what it feels like to hide in that closet, and seemed truly inspired by Ellen’s speech.

Kristen Bell summed up Ellen Page’s speech, calling it “honest, funny and articulate.”

Debra Messing called Ellen’s speech her “truth.”

Countless other Hollywood celebrities chimed in as well via Twitter to share their awe and gratitude for Ellen Page’s speech. She not only has freed her own heart and mind for a life of living as who she truly is–but has no doubt inspired others to do the same. And while it will no doubt be a path filled with many roadblocks, Page clearly has what it takes to barrel through each and every one of them–with dignity and grace.
