  • It’s becoming pretty obvious that 2014 is the year of Ellen DeGeneres.

First she does a spectacular job of hosting the Oscars, then she takes a selfie that broke records and almost shut down Twitter for a while, and now she is topping Out magazine’s 2014 Power List.

For the eighth year Out magazine has released their rankings of the 50 most influential members of the LGBT community in American culture.

Of the 56-year-old TV host, Out wrote on their website, “Everybody loves Ellen, and that’s one of the reasons she’s regained the top spot. In March, The Ellen DeGeneres Show shattered its own 10-year ratings record in the episode that immediately followed her Academy Awards hosting gig, which also gave the awards its best ratings since 2004. And her star-studded Oscars selfie almost shut down Twitter when the pic became the most retweeted ever.”

DeGeneres slipped to number two last year when Apple CEO Tim Cook claimed the top spot, but this year they switched places in the rankings.

Actress Ellen Page debuted at number 29 on the list after coming out in February. “The impact of a leading lady in Hollywood making such a bold move is still being felt,” said Out of Page’s coming out.

NFL hopeful Michael Sam also made his debut on the list this year at number 9. Out wrote, “By coming out at the beginning of a promising career, when he’s a solid prospect, he’s forced every player, owner, coach, and sports reporter to take a position on the presence of out players in America’s most popular, most macho sport.”
