  • El Chapo reportedly came close to being recaptured after being on the run since his infamous July escape from a Mexico City prison.

El Chapo was able to evade authorities, however, it is said that he sustained injuries to his face and leg.

The Mexican government said in a statement, “Due to these actions and to avoid his arrest, the fugitive escaped in a hurry (in recent days), which according to the information that was collected, caused him injuries to his leg and face.”

The statement continued, “It is important to specify that these injuries were not the product of a direct clash.”

Authorities didn’t give any more specifics about the reported injuries, but they are no doubt a little embarrassed by their continued failure to capture El Chapo.

El Chapo escaped prison on July 11th, for the second time in his criminal career, through a hole in his cell shower that led to a mile-long tunnel which took him under the prison grounds and out to his freedom.

Only a few months ago El Chapo’s son, Alfredo Guzman, tweeted what was widely seen as a taunting clue to the fugitive drug lord’s whereabouts.

The post included a photo of Alfredo sitting with two men, one of which resembles El Chapo from what can be derived from under giant emoticons placed over their eyes.

The caption read, “Satisfied here, you already know with whom.”

However, back then authorities were not convinced that the photo was a clue and wondered if it could be a red herring in the case.

Former DEA agent Phil Jordan said of the taunt, “One of the most intelligent traffickers has been Chapo. His son is not the brightest star on the Christmas tree. The best recorded intelligence on the son is that he doesn’t have his father’s intelligence.”

He added, “But, I caution this could be a diversion to throw off authorities.”

Do you think El Chapo will be captured soon? Or maybe not at all?
