  • After Solja “Superman that ho” Boy’s death, or rumors thereof, spread like wildfire over Twitter, a hoax using the social media platform was blamed. However, what I’m now referring to as “The Twitter Murderer” has struck again. This time, his victim is the once-great Eddie Murphy.

That’s right, a current and active trend moving quickly through the Twitterverse going by the “RIP Eddie Murphy” phrase is apparently trying to catch the same bottled lightning that Jon Bon Jovi and the aforementioned Soulja Boy provided. Now, it’s clear what started out as a joke as become a playful, albeit morbid trend.

According to the gossip kings of the web, Murphy is alive and well. Surprisingly, the collective known as “TMZ” indicates a site called MediaFetcher.com is responsible for all of these “RIP” hoaxes. Granted, a quick search for further information finds there are other hoaxes related to the MediaFetcher keyword, but TMZ’ post is one of the first to outright implicate the site.

As for Twitter, well, the usual fun was had:

RIP Eddie Murphy ? Twitter kills more people than freaking Freddy Krueger! smh 1 hour ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

RIP Eddie Murphy? Twitter got more bodies than the D.C. Sniper 35 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

RT @HarryStylesGR: RIP Eddie Murphy. Omg, how did he died? < The Same Way Ur Grammar In This Tweet Died. 46 minutes ago via TweetDeck ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

    Is this irony?

RIP Eddie Murphy? Twitter kills more people than Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and Chucky….put together! smh 52 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

RIP Eddie Murphy? Dude, Twitter killed more people than Hitler 54 minutes ago via Mobile Web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

RIP Eddie Murphy. CNN reports that he was murdered by the serial killer, called Twitter. 59 minutes ago via web ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto

And with that, I think we all know what the meme of the day is:

“Twitter kills more people than _______”

That’s actually t-shirt worthy. Considering the recent victims of the Twitter Murderer, who do you think will be next? There doesn’t appear to be a discernable pattern, so your guess is as good as mine. In order to pay proper respect to someone who could’ve been the best stand-up comedian, perhaps ever (no disrespect to Richard Pryor), here’s one of Eddie Murphy’s greatest moments. Be warned, however.

    The language is entirely NSFW:

    Ah, the memories.
