  • Linux has the tendency to get no love from the major video game publishers. Well today we get news that the Free to Play games Lord of Ultima and Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances are coming to the Ubuntu Software Center. The titles run in your default browser and installing the games through the Software Center adds handy Dash launchers in the Dash and Unity Launcher.

    Lord Of Ultima

Lord of Ultima is an online MMO game. The flash based game features stats driven gameplay that focuses on battle, trading, and building clans. I have spent a lot of time playing this game and it can be very addictive and time consuming. The game lets you build armies and attack other castles and has “bosses” throughout the world that drop artifacts to help you speed up your game. You can also spend real world money for artifacts.

    Command and Conquer: Tiberium Alliances

Command and Conquer: Tiberium Alliances is a lot like LOU in the sense that there are no real moving parts, but it really seems more combat based. This is because unlike LOU, you can be attacked at any time. In LOU you can build as many lands as you want to, but unless you build a castle you cannot be attacked. The only way this really resembles a C&C game is the name of the items, like Tiberium.

For EA to do this is kind of a big deal and maybe this is a sign that the Linux platform is gaining some popularity thanks to things like the Raspberry Pi. This falls in line with the story that Valve is bringing Steam to Linux. Maybe this is EA’s test to see if Origin is a viable money maker on Linux?
