  • Dwayne Johnson–a.k.a. The Rock–has no doubt been blown away by many facets of excitement in the course of his 43 years. After all, he’s been a professional wrestler and a film star. Now he’s a TV star as well, with his new HBO series called Ballers.

None of these things quite compare, however, to a letter Dwayne Johnson received a few weeks ago. That letter was from Steven Spielberg.

In the cover story of Esquire magazine’s August issue, Dwayne Johnson talks about the contents of that letter.

“About three weeks ago, I’m here at the house and I get a letter. ‘Been enjoying your movies over the years. Very entertaining. I feel like I’ve really gotten to know you over the years, most recently after watching you host Saturday Night Live. Great job. You continue to go for it. Proud of your work and look forward to meeting you. Steven Spielberg,’” Johnson told the magazine. “It took me back to being just like a kid. I was so blown away.”

The San Andreas star was so excited when he received the letter that he posted a photo of himself reading it to his Instagram account.

“Grinnin’ now like a big ass kid,” he captioned the shot, adding, “THANK YOU STEVEN SPIELBERG for these inspiring and motivating words in your letter and cheers to making sure I’m always listening to that little voice in my gut.”

It’s got to be quite a thrill to cross from the wrestling world into that of acting. In fact, Dwayne Johnson talks about that in his Esquire interview, too. Just imagine making that huge a transition and then receiving kudos from Steven Spielberg.

No wonder Dwayne Johnson was grinning.

    He might be grinning still.
