  • Will the Duggar family of 19 Kids and Counting fame survive the admission of eldest son Josh Duggar–he sexually molested five underage girls including four of his own sisters–intact?

The Duggar family patriarch and matriarch–Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar–covered up for their son for many years. In a statement they made last week, a day after the sexual molestation scandal broke, they indicate they dealt with Josh’s actions in the way they saw fit.

“Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives,” their Duggar family statement reads. “When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before.”

“Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles every day. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us–even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey–the good times and the difficult times–cause you to see the kindness of God and learn that He can bring you through anything,” Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar’s statement continued.

The Duggar family stands to lose their TV show, 19 Kids and Counting, in the wake of this admission. Advertisers have already pulled out of the TLC show.

The thing that could really bring the Duggar family to their knees (both literally and figuratively) is the fact that Josh Duggar molested four of his own sisters–presumably Jana Duggar, Jill Duggar Dillard, Jessa Duggar Seewald, and Jinger Duggar.

At some point those young women–all are between the ages of 25 and 21 now–will realize they never truly healed from their brother’s actions. Will they blame themselves, their brother, or their parents when that happens?

Do you think the Duggar family can survive this whole sexual molestation ordeal?
