Drumpf: Donald Trump’s Real Family Name Gets Exposed, Tops Google Search

  • John Oliver called on people to “Make Donald Drumpf Again” on his program on Sunday evening, and by the next day, “Donald J. Drumpf” became one of the top searched names on Google, more searched than any other Republican candidate’s name.

On Tuesday, Drumpf became the second most searched Republican Presidential candidate on the said search engine, making him more famous than Donald Trump’s rivals Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. At the moment, Drumpf has his own Wikipedia page.

Oliver made fun of the fact that Trump is not using his real family name Drumpf, on his show and encouraged viewers to change Trump’s name to Drumpf.

“Drumpf is much less magical — it’s the sound produced when a morbidly obese pigeon flies into the window of a foreclosed Old Navy. It’s the sound of a bottle of store-brand root beer falling off the shelf in a gas station mini mart,” Oliver said of Trump’s family name. The hashtag #MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain immediately trended on social media afterwards.

Trump’s ancestors allegedly changed their family name from Drumpf to Trump during the Thirty Years War in the 17th, according to journalist Gwenda Blair, who wrote a biography of the family. Other sources suggest that it was changed when Trump’s grandfather migrated from Germany to the U.S. in 1885.

Drumpf’s Wikipedia page includes a picture of his real grandfather, Friedrich Drumpf, who was described as a “war dodger.”

Oliver said the name Drumpf would “uncouple that magical word from the man he really is.” The Wikipedia page also includes the website Drumpf: Make Donald Drumpf Again! which Oliver made for the parody character. Oliver’s Donald Drumpf joke has gained so much popularity that the character now has its own Twitter page, @RealDonaldDrumpf. “Operated under the actual family name Drumpf,” the Twitter description read.
