  • I’m going to be upfront with all of you. I’m hopelessly in love with Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma. The Japanese developers’s take on Western fantasy has me enthralled more so than I was with Skyrim last year. The expansive world full of monsters to slay and side quests to complete is only made better knowing that the team who worked on Resident Evil 5 and Devil May Cry 4 are on board to lend their action game expertise to the project.

Capcom released two new trailers for the game today that show off what they consider the game’s spookier side. I’m all for spooky in my fantasy action game and Dragon’s Dogma does not disappoint. Check out the first trailer below that features the player taking on phantoms in a night battle. It’s pretty amazing to see spirits be this aggressive in a game after the lackluster ghost enemies in the Elder Scrolls.

The second trailer should feel a bit more close to home with the recent uprising of zombies in games. I feel that fantasy zombies are still some of the best and, once again, Dragon’s Dogma doesn’t disappoint. It shouldn’t be surprising though considering that the Resident Evil guys are working on this game and they know zombies.

Dragon’s Dogma launches on May 22 in the U.S. and May 25 in Europe for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Capcom has said in the past that this is their most expensive project ever and I’m willing to believe them. It looks wonderful and is the kind of originality that people need to support. Even with accusations that Capcom is a terrible publisher for including on-disc DLC for Street Fighter x Tekken and other travesties, just bask in the fact that the company still makes a damn fine game.

Be sure to check out the other new trailers from Capcom today including a new look at Resident Evil 6, Lost Planet 3 and DmC. Both are pretty fantastic in their own right.
