  • While the videos for Dragon’s Dogma have made me more excited for the game than I should be, a playable demo has not yet been delivered to my console. Capcom is changing that next week to give players a look into how the game performs before its May launch.

Normally, news of a demo wouldn’t be that big of news. Almost every game gets some form of demo these days and it’s more news when a game doesn’t get a demo. Dragon’s Dogma is different though. It’s not so much a demo as it is a prologue.

The Capcom-Unity blog explains that the demo will have you taking on the role of a sword-and-shield Fighter class as you take the playable character through some underground tunnels that serve as a prologue quest to the main game. The demo culminates in a fight between yourself and a Chimera.

If you’re looking for more of a demo, you can also take on the role of the Strider class. This will have you battling against a Griffin in the open plains level that the trailers frequently display.

All of this is just icing on the cake though because you’ll also be able to play around with the character customization engine. With this, you can create your player character as well as the first Main Pawn, an NPC helper character. If you find that you like the character you created, you can import them into the main game once its released.

Dragon’s Dogma launches for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on May 22 in the U.S. and May 25 in Europe. I already have my copy pre-ordered and I can’t wait to get into the character creator next week.

If you haven’t heard of Dragon’s Dogma or still aren’t sold on how amazing it looks, check out the newest trailer. You might just find yourself becoming a mindless fan just like me.
