  • Donkey Kong Country has a certain reputation. Each entry is a hard as nails platformer with varied environments and incredible music. The last game in the franchise – Donkey Kong Country Returns – nailed all of the core tenets except for the music. They’re fixing that in the latest game out this Friday.

Nintendo reminded us this morning that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be launching exclusively on Wii U on February 21. In just a few days, you’ll be able to play as Donkey Kong alongside Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong and Cranky Kong as they make their way through a number of worlds in pursuit of their banana horde and the new enemy Snowmads.

“The games in the Donkey Kong Country series have always entertained audiences of all ages and skill levels with their breathtaking visuals and fun and challenging game play,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze continues this rich legacy with a memorable adventure that’s only available on Wii U.”

While the gameplay certainly looks fantastic, the music is where Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze really shines. The composer on the original Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest – David Wise – is back at the helm in Tropical Freeze. During his time at Rare, he composed some of the best video game music ever composed, and his signature style is back in the latest game.

Just check out the music in the latest trailer:

If your childhood was defined by Donkey Kong Country, the music in Tropical Freeze should be the most delightful thing you hear all year. If you don’t mind being spoiled, you can check out some additional tracks that have been shared on NeoGAF.
