  • Politics in South Carolina can be highly entertaining at times, and this past weekend was no exception. Nikki Haley, the current SC governor, is running against Vincent Sheheen, a democrat, to keep her job. During a political event in Florence, SC on Friday, Sheheen accidentally called his opponent a “whore.”

“We are going to escort whore out the door,” Sheheen said, referring to Nikki Haley. The crowd started howling with laughter as Sheheen corrected himself and said, “We’re gonna escort her out the door.” It was too late, though, and Sheheen had to ask the crowd to calm down. “Y’all,” he said, while completely cracking up at his mistake. “Think about it, y’all. Alright, calm down out there.”

Check out the above video of Vincent Sheheen speaking at the event and see if it sounds like he called Nikki Haley a whore.

No surprise there, but Sheheen’s slip caused a lot of backlash, with many people saying that this is part of the war on women:

The Democratic Party promises that Vincent Sheen referring to Nikki Haley as a whore was purely accidental. “If you take a look at the actual video it’s really clear that he got tongue tied and did not say anything like what folks are tweeting online,” Kristin Sosanie, the communications director for the South Carolina Democratic Party, said in an email.

    Freudian slip anyone?

This definitely hasn’t helped Sheheen gain any track in the vastly red state of South Carolina. Sheheen lost to Haley in 2010, and even though many people on both sides agree that Haley isn’t the best fit for SC, Real Clear Politics has her at 15.3 points ahead of Sheheen. It definitely doesn’t look like Sheheen will taking the state back on November 4.
