  • Depression symptoms may lessen when those suffering from the very real illness share their story with others. A new book, The iMpossible Project, written by Joshua Rivedal, is set for publication in January. Rivedal hopes those suffering from depression symptoms may find some relief in reading the stories in the collection.

In a recent interview with The Huffington Post, the author spoke of his recovery from depression symptoms and the catalyst behind writing his book.

“I lost my father to suicide in 2009 and he lost his dad to suicide in the late 1960s, so this is something that I’ve been dealing with almost for my entire life,” he said. “Two years after I lost my dad, I went through my own suicidal crisis. I didn’t have coping skills, tools or anything like that, and so it was a very dark period in my life, and thankfully, I was able to get help.”

The author adds that therapy and talking to his mom about his depression symptoms significantly lightened his load.

“I’ve been sharing my own story for almost five years, and after sharing my story I realized I need to help other people to share their stories too,” he said. “So this book has [stories of] bipolar disorder, LGBT issues, suicide, mental health. There’s lots of really powerful things and people who have inspired with me and I get to share them with the world.”

Therapy with a licensed clinician, and often medication prescribed by a psychiatrist, can work wonders for those suffering from depression symptoms, too. If sharing one’s story helps, too, then hopefully there are many with open ears and open hearts who are ready to listen.
